The short version. You can read this whole site without giving us anything. There are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no cookies. We only get your details if you send us a message, and we use them only to reply. We never sell your information.

Who we are

edscriver.com is the author website of Ed Scriver. It is run by Phos Press LLC, Ed’s publisher, which is responsible for the personal information described here. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Phos Press LLC.

If you have any question about this policy or your information, email privacy@phospress.com.

What this site collects

When you just browse

Nothing that identifies you. This site:

  • has no cookies of any kind, so there is no cookie banner
  • has no analytics or visitor tracking
  • has no adverts and no social media “like” buttons or trackers
  • serves its fonts from this site, not from Google or another font service
  • runs blog search inside your browser: what you type is never sent anywhere

Like every website, our web host automatically records basic technical details when your browser asks for a page, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. The host uses these server logs to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, and keeps them only for a limited time. We don’t use them to identify or profile visitors.

When you send a message

The contact form asks for your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We use these only to read and reply to your message.

The form is delivered by Web3Forms, a form service that emails your message to our inbox. It keeps a copy for a limited time. See Web3Forms’ privacy policy.

We keep messages only as long as we need them to deal with what you asked, and then delete them.

Free books and the newsletter

The free book and newsletter sign-up links take you to books.phospress.com, which is run for us by BookFunnel. When you claim a free book there, you give your email address to BookFunnel and to us, and you agree to receive Ed’s newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. BookFunnel’s own privacy policy applies on their site.

Buying books

This site doesn’t sell anything directly. If you buy one of Ed’s books, you buy it from a bookshop or retailer (or from Phos Press), and that seller’s privacy policy covers your purchase and payment details. We never see your card details.

Why we can use your information

If you are in the UK or European Economic Area, data protection law requires us to have a legal reason for using your information:

  • Replying to your message: our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us, or taking steps you asked for before entering a contract.
  • Newsletter: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Server logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
  • Legal obligations: where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

Who else is involved

We share information only with the services that help us run the site, and only as much as they need:

Service What it does What it sees
Our web host Stores and delivers the site Server logs, as described above
Web3Forms Delivers contact form messages by email What you type into the contact form
Our email provider Holds our business inbox Messages you send us
BookFunnel Delivers free books and newsletter sign-ups Your email address, when you sign up

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety. If Phos Press were ever sold or merged, your information could pass to the new owner, who would have to respect this policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.

Some of these services are based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries. Where information leaves the UK or EEA, we rely on the service’s legal safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.

Links to other sites

This site links to other websites, including Substack, Facebook, Bookish Troves, Phos Press and book retailers. Their privacy policies apply when you visit them, and we aren’t responsible for how they handle your information.

Keeping your information safe

The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and the little information we hold is kept in password-protected business accounts. No system is perfectly secure, but we hold so little that there is little to lose.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • show you the personal information we hold about you
  • correct anything that’s wrong
  • delete your information
  • stop sending you marketing emails

If you are in the UK or EEA, you also have the right to object to or restrict how we use your information, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. If you live in a US state with a privacy law, such as California, you have similar rights to know, correct and delete, and we will never treat you differently for using them.

To make a request, use the Phos Press data request form or email privacy@phospress.com. We reply within 30 days, and may ask you to confirm your identity first, so we don’t give your information to someone else.

If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.

Children

This site is meant for general readers and isn’t aimed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us their details, contact us and we’ll delete them.

Do Not Track

Because this site doesn’t track visitors at all, there is nothing for “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals to switch off. We honour them on principle.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, such as adding analytics, we’ll say so clearly here first.
